Self portrait

This is the first time I've tried this since I was about 16 (a while ago) It's an unusual and not entirely unpleasant experience.
The main differences in the painting are the length of my hair and that I am smiling slightly, which I didn't feel like doing much when I was 16, whereas I do now!

Island in the stream

I found a photo recently of a tiny island (in the English Channel - La Manche) that appealed. Here's a painting based on that photo. Thanks to the BBC for radio and TV coverage last week of my 'Daily Paintings'. Something I didn't mention is that each painting takes under an hour. I find the discipline creates greater focus and fluidity.

Drowning Boat

Last August I spent a very pleasant weekend in County Sligo at a friends' birthday party. It was in a beautiful country house hotel about 5 miles from Sligo and I took a number of photos over the weekend (as you do) This is based on a partly sunken rowing boat near the boat house. Earlier in the weekend I had a 'seaweed bath' that I wasn't really looking forward to, but like a lot of things in life, once I tried it I LOVED IT! Try it if you ever get a chance.

Dublin

I planned a number of paintings during a recent trip to Ireland. (see drowning boat below) This is based on the beautiful night view over the Liffey.

Barcelona by night

I've been running a blog since the beginning of April showing my 'daily paintings' of (mainly) the Sussex Countryside near my home and studio in Sussex. Occasionaly I make pictures whilst travelling away from home, either from life or from photos that I take with a view of making a painting. Here's a painting from a recent trip to Barcelona.
